In this eBook, Coach Shaun Weaver of Gettysburg College introduces an approach to implementing the Zone Blitz that involves “stretching”, rather than “burning” the underneath pass zones. Coach Weaver’s system allows for 5 or 6 pass rushers and includes slanting Linemen combined with one or two Linebackers, or a Linebacker and Secondary player blitzing.
Also included are number of options for dropping Linemen into coverage, examples of Zone Blitzes that are equally effective against the Run and the Pass, and tips for using Down and Distance, Hash and Formation tendencies to help select the Zone Blitz schemes that will direct pressure at the expected point of attack, or the weak point in pass protection.
Included in the Appendix are examples of a variety of Formation Hit Charts – a time tested tool at all levels for charting an offense by formation. Two blank “templates” are included as well.
The Zone Blitz concept can be incorporated into most Defensive schemes, and most readers will find something from the numerous examples and illustrations that can be put to work right way.
