CompuSports Media Exchange suspends eBook publishing - awaits Scribd Copyright Infringement Lawsuit ruling

For Immediate Release:

Effective Feb 1, 20010, the CompuSports Media Exchange has suspended its acceptance of new materials for distribution as "standalone" electronic books on the CompuSports Media Exchange, citing "new risks" involved with making copyrighted material available in electronic form due to the rise of digital media "sharing" web sites.

With fewer titles available as standalone eBooks and Powerpoint presentations, the company will more aggressively monitor "sharing" sites that it believes do far too little to police "members" that upload materials in violation of long-standing US Copyright laws. By requiring authors and publishers to identify copyright violations and request the removal of a "pirated" item in writing, the policies and practices of file sharing sites like www.scribd.com unfairly place the burden of identifying and stopping copyright infringement on authors and publishers.

The CompuSports Media Exchange, like many other businesses that distribute digital media assets, is anxiously awaiting a court ruling on a pending lawsuit against Scribd to determine if and when it will resume accepting copyrighted material for "standalone" electronic distribution.

The site will continue to accept and publish sports and coaching related articles as well as copyrighted downloadable coaching software. In addition, it will expand the selection of eBooks and other content that is available in "dual format" - as eBook/book, and eBook/CD or DVD combinations.
